Editor Interview: Leodegraunce

This interview is provided for archival purposes. The listing is not currently active.

Q: Describe what you publish in 25 characters or less.

A: High-end flash fiction

Q: What other current publications (or publishers) do you admire most?

A: I've taken an interest in PANK. The stories are entertaining and well written, and I love the look of the online magazine.

Q: What sets your publication apart from others that publish similar material?

A: Aside from the fact that we only publish the highest of quality, stories accepted at Leodegraunce get featured for a week along with an author interview. We only publish 4 to 5 stories a month.

Q: What is the best advice you can give people who are considering submitting work to your publication?

A: We don't archive. Therefore, I encourage authors to visit our site every week to get a feel for what we publish and to read our guidelines.

Q: Describe the ideal submission.

A: It's a complete story, and it packs a punch at the end. It's intriguing, and it leaves the reader thinking.

Q: If you publish writing, how much of a piece do you read before making the decision to reject it?

A: We publish short, short fiction. Therefore, I read every story to the end.

Q: What additional evaluations, if any, does a piece go through before it is accepted?

A: As the founder of Leodegraunce, every flash fiction story must meet my eclectic taste and fit the theme for the month. We receive up to 70 stories a month, and I only accept 4 or 5 of them. Then they must pass through the eyes of my associate editor. If he determines that a piece I've chosen is not a complete story, I reject it and replace it with another selection. I'm good at determining if a story has a beginning, middle and end, but it can get tricky with flash fiction. I'm not looking for poetry.

Q: How important do you feel it is for publishers to embrace modern technologies?

A: Modern technology is the 21st century. Today, authors may send their stories to online publications, get published and get paid faster than through traditional means. At Leodegraunce, we will publish the flash fiction we feature online in an annual print book, so we do both online and print. However, Leodegraunce attracts quality authors who have also been published in print because these authors recognize that print is not the only legitimate way to go.
