Our goal is to keep Duotrope's Digest free to the public, but it does
cost money and time to run. We have web hosting bills to pay, and our
small staff works part-time solely on this site, programming new features and
ensuring that all the publication listings are as up-to-date as humanly
possible.
If we can't make ends meet and have Duotrope's Digest come close to paying for
itself, then some features of the site will have to be made available on a
subscription basis (pay a fee per month or per year). We don't want that, and
neither do you!
So, please, donate if you can. Even a small amount will help! So far this year, 5.55% of our registered users and subscribers have donated. The average donation has been $16.58.

Our contibution goal fluctuates, based on the number of current subscribers and
active registered users(*) we have. The more subscribers and active
registered users we have, the more work it takes to run Duotrope's Digest and
the more our bandwidth costs increase. The goal amount determined is
fair. It covers our hosting costs and only a small portion of the time(§)
we spend working on Duotrope's Digest. If each of our subscribers
contributed just $4.25 a year, we would make our goal for the year.
However, only a small percentage of our subscribers contributes.
* "Active registered users" are users who have been active (i.e. reported
submissions or logged in) within the past month. "Current subscribers" are
e-newsletter subscribers whose messages have not bounced back to us and who
have not unsubscribed.
§ Each of our staff members spends 15-30 hours per week
just keeping Duotrope's Digest running: checking guidelines for changes,
updating market listings, adding new listings, etc. When we add new
features, that figure increases dramatically.
