Genres & Theme

Action-Adventure Action-Adventure
Fantasy Fantasy
Historical Fiction Historical Fiction
THEMED: For Children, For Young Adults/Teens, Empowering girls aged 8 to 14. Specific themes may vary.

Short stories in which the main character is a girl ages 8 to 12 and includes subject matter and a plot that empowers girls of this age. Keep in mind that New Moon’s mission is to let girls tell the world who they are—it is not our mission to tell girls who they should be. Best chance of acceptance if it fits with an editorial theme. Please note that New Moon is a magazine for girls and by girls. This means that an article written by a girl will ALWAYS take precedence over an adult-written article of a similar nature.
IMPORTANT: Must be a girl or woman to submit.

Before Submitting
We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close overnight. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Just remember ...

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • For novel/collection publishers, it is standard to submit a cover letter, synopsis, and sample instead of the full manuscript.  Do this unless otherwise instructed.
  • Include a SASE with all mailed submissions, queries, and requests for guidelines.
  • Be professional, patient and persistent.
