We welcome both new and established writers' submissions. However, we do favor the new writer. And, as Carver has said, "No tricks." We like pretty much anything that has artistic integrity, a sense of tradition as well as anarchy, and all and anything that you think will contribute positively to the mutiny of today's armada. Just don't send us rubbish, e.g., workshop fiction, confessional poetry, or genre work. We'll throw it away. Also, anything anti-union, anti-gay, or anti-civil rights will need to be, as a matter of handicap, at least 5 times as good as anything that lacks such defects. [There is no payment for pieces published on their website, but they do plan to pay for pieces published in their annual print issue. See their site for details.]

Before Submitting
We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close overnight. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Just remember ...

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • For novel/collection publishers, it is standard to submit a cover letter, synopsis, and sample instead of the full manuscript.  Do this unless otherwise instructed.
  • Include a SASE with all mailed submissions, queries, and requests for guidelines.
  • Be professional, patient and persistent.
